A day of Art

So the other day I was in school and I opened up the "notes" section on my phone.. I tend to do this a lot when good ideas come to my head. I started to write down certain things and reflect on how my day had been. I was so inspired by the events that took place that day, that I even wrote a poem. This day at school was unlike an ordinary day.. it was, to me, a day of art. This day our schedule changed a bit, we had our annual variety show, I participated (sang) in our school concert and I attended choral class that day. Additionally, during my free period that day (this was a very casual schedule for me), I listened in on the African Studies class's drum session. This class had a man bring in African instruments that were played in the middle of the hallway of my school during this period. The juniors and seniors faces in these classes were lit with smiles. Few kids showed little interest in the culture and beauty behind the drums they were playing. Some only appreciated it because they weren't in class and got to make noise, but either way there was an invisible bubble of gratitude for this experience above the class I observed. Because of the breaks in between the day for the assembly and concert there were less academic classes. Not to make it sound like I dislike my academic classes, because I truly value them, but this day was something special. Something quieter than normal. I felt reflective, more at peace and music and culture rang through my soul :). Here is the poem I wrote after this fun day at school:

A day of art is a day of joy, of performance, of passion and of tears.

A day of art is pensive and reflective

It can help us as we continue on our journey in every day life.

A day of art gives us perspective, something that society today lacks too much of.
